Mutilation and The Power of Shame as The “Guardian of Dignity”

Abstract: This paper intends to broaden the subject of shame with a view to including and developing the theory and practice of Bioenergetic Analysis from the foundations laid out by Wilhelm Reich and Alexander Lowen, pioneers of body therapy. “We don’t have a body”, we are a systemic body. This paper will draw from the views of Chilean neuroscientist, Humberto Maturana, within the fields of Biology of Cognition and Biology of Love, as well as from Polish philosopher and sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, a great modern thinker on the frailty of bonds. I will add some recent Bio-energetic Analysis articles from the journal of Bioenergetic Analysis pub-lished in the period of 2011-2017. I understand shame as sensations that might develop from childhood and take hold of our true self, mutilating spontaneity and freedom, deeply impacting on our sense of dignity. How-ever, I also see it as a multigenerational inheritance passed on in the form of beliefs and values that strongly interfere with bonding. As I see it, Bio-energetic Analysis in the field of family therapy can restore generational wounds in face of contemporary challenges.

A mutilação e a força da vergonha como guardiã da dignidadade
Resumo: Este artigo tem como proposta ampliar o tema vergonha com objetivo de incluir e articular a teoria e a prática da Análise Bioenergética a partir dos fundamentos de Whilhelm Reich e Alexander Lowen, pioneiros na psicologia Corporal. “Nós não temos um corpo”, nós somos um corpo sistêmico. Esse artigo terá como base a visão de Humberto Maturana, neurobiólogo chileno, dentro do campo da Biologia do Conhecer e da Biologia do Amor e, também, Zygmund Bauman, filósofo e sociólogo polonês que foi um grande pensador da modernidade sobre a fragilidade dos vínculos. Incluirei também alguns artigos atualizados da Análise Bionergética desde o Journal de Análise Bioenergética editados de 2011 até 2017. Entendo a vergonha como sensações que podem se iniciar a partir do desenvolvimento infantil e se apropriar do nosso verdadeiro self mutilando a espontaneidade, liberdade e atingindo profundamente nosso senso de dignidade em nosso self, porém compreendo também a vergonha como heranças muiltiregeracionais através de crenças e valores interferindo fortemente no processo de vinculação. Compreendo que a Análise Bioenergética no campo da Terapia com Famílias pode restaurar danos geracionais diante das dificuldades contemporâneas.
